Friends and Partners

Back in January, a lengthy lunch-time conversation with my talented Sicilian friends has given me a lot to aspire to in the years to come. Manuel and Alessandro told me about the project they had in mind, soliciting my interest towards bringing it to life alongside them. This meant becoming a Co-Founder of their organisation, so I happily pictured ourselves as soon-to-be partners, working towards what could one day become a business. I admired the wholesome nature of the project and realised that this was an excellent chance to team up in doing something of great purpose as we move on from the pandemic. After a long administrative procedure, our organisation was legally established by April and we’re hoping that our launch event can take place before the end of 2021.

Manuel, Alessandro and I – celebrating the establishment in April.

Our organisation is called Boleyn Factory – a tribute to Anne Boleyn as an accomplished woman and patron of fine art, and inspired by Andy Warhol’s Factory: the 1960s iconic New York studios where hip artists could meet and unleash their creative potential. Boleyn Factory is based in Bordeaux for now, but we want it to evolve into a large-scale idependent film company and a multi-cultural organisation.

The idea to create Boleyn Factory originates from Manuel’s experience as a graduating filmmaker in Bologna, Italy. With little support and material resources available, he was challenged by the lack of opportunities needed in order to get experience in the industry. Our aim is to fill this void for other young filmmakers, guiding them throughout the filmmaking process whilst also building a resourceful network for the future generations. Boleyn Factory will become a gateway through which we hope to raise awareness and visibility of independent cinema production.

Boleyn Factory will not only produce and distribute cinematographic content. We will operate as a membership club with various activities such as art & culture showcasing events, workshops, behind the scenes experiences and so on. With diversity and integrity at heart, we hope to see our projects and partnerships fuel with innovation La Belle Endormie‘s cultural scene. (Bordeaux’s infamous nickname – referring to the city’s unawakened potential).

I owe a lot to Manuel and Alessandro for introducing me to new aspects of creativity. Friends since we met through work in 2019, I have enjoyed more of their company in recent months, being inspired by their vast range of interests. Alessandro past is in cultural & archeological studies, which has provided him with great knowledge and analytical skills appliable to all sorts of projects. Manuel is curious and insightful, always with some authentic idea for a film on his mind. Each specialising in different forms of artistic interpretation, together we form a well-functioning team.

My role will be to look after communications and social media. I will be responsible for the organisation’s online presence, membership management, event coordination and promotion campaigns. Being involved in this project will be a valuable and fulfilling adventure and I look forward to contributing to the growth of Boleyn Factory.

Stay tuned!
