Bonjour Bordeaux

It has been a while since my last post but I seem to have only just found some time to log back onto here. I am making the most of a quiet day after my first week of work at the Ballet de l’Opera National de Bordeaux…

Over the past month and a half I have done a lot of travelling within Europe to visit different companies and join in on their classes. It was all good experience and I am grateful for the opportunities and considerable benefits it has brought me. I repeat that I took part in classes and not auditions, which allowed me to get a taste of the various companies and help to decide for which ones I would like to return to for an audition, and perhaps also helping to make myself known a little ahead of numerous applicants. Most company auditions happen at the start of the new year, so I’m already planning my next moves.

Since finding out about my temporary contract on October 9th, arriving in Bordeaux last Sunday could not come soon enough. I won’t reveal all after just my first week as I plan to answer most of the questions you might have about my time here in my next post. However I can say that I am really enjoying the change to company life after eight years training as a vocational student; going back to school for my final months will be tough after this!  Each day consists of many hours spent in the rehearsal studio with pointe shoes on learning choreography at a fast pace, but it’s not so bad once you remember you are being paid! It is also nice to be working alongside other professional dancers and observing their work ethics.

That is all for now, but it won’t be too long until my next update.
