To the Pointe

The Royal Opera House has today released two great short video clips in support of their Pointe Shoe Appeal. Principal Dancers Edward Watson and Mara Galeazzi take you behind-the-scenes to explain the importance of their footwear and how they are prepared for a performance.

Mara Galeazzi first joined The Royal Ballet in 1992 and her first major role will also be her last at the Royal Opera House, as Mary Vetsera in Mayerling. Anyone who makes an online donation to the Pointe Shoe Appeal will be entered in the draw to win a signed pair of Mara’s pointe shoes from her final performance on June 13.

The Royal Ballet spends £250,000 on shoes for their dancers each year.
