After weeks of intensive preparation that included the construction of an enormous pond of water in the garden of White Lodge, the new Range Rover was revealed to an international audience of celebrities, business leaders, sports stars and royalty last night. Guests included Zara Phillips, Victoria Pendleton, Yasmin Le Bon, Jessica Schwarz, David Gandy, Julian McDonald, Alex James, Jimmy Carr. Special guests representing our School were Ms Stock, Mr Winter, Ms Hogg-Andrews and Mr Bushnell.
A Director of Land Rover said during the evening: “Like the Royal Ballet School, Land Rover is quintessentially British and has been setting world standards in performance and capability for many years. We wanted to launch the All-New Range Rover in the UK and White Lodge was the perfect venue.”
For almost unrecognisable views of White Lodge on the night watch this video clip:
The dramatic reveal culminated in a surprise seven-song performance by Mark Knopfler. Dire Straits classics including, ‘Sultans of Swing’ and ‘Money for Nothing’ rocked the grounds of Richmond Park and guests including Mike Tindall, Martin Johnson, Holly Vallance, Nick Candy, Karen Brady, Theo Paphitis, Nick Love, Kenny Logan partied the night away.
I was lucky enough to have a sneak preview and was amazed that our School had been turned into something like a film set. Even the ‘Nelson Room’ or the staff room as we know it, had become a SciFi Theatre where a gesture control system allowed you to interact with video clips of the new Range Rover.
White Lodge must now be turned back into a Ballet School in time to welcome returning residential students tomorrow for the start of the new academic year. Such a lot of effort, but the money raised by allowing our School to be used for such events will support our ballet training in the long term.
