The Royal Ballet Summer School

With a friend I’m travelling to our first day at Summer School at Covent Garden and, even this early, the train is already packed. Yesterday I joined more than 100 other dance students aged 15-18 from all over the world as we registered for two weeks of intensive training. Most of the overseas students are staying in the School’s accommodation but those who live in London like me will commute each day. I’m looking forward to today; after warm-up we will start with a ballet class taught by Anita Young followed by pointe-work with our Director, Gailene Stock. In the afternoon we will have a contemporary class with Ms Steele followed by repertoire with Ms Young again.

Next week I will be able to catch up with Monique Loudières who was Director of the ESDC Rosella Hightower when I studied there in 2007. However, the name of the guest teacher that caused us all to gasp with excitement at the welcome meeting yesterday was Darcey Bussell – wow!

Our train has arrived at Waterloo station so I better sign off here.  Prisca
